Top 5 Questions Cell Tech Technicians Get Asked

At Cell Tech, we often get asked a variety of questions relating to broken devices, or what to do when a problem arises.

Whatever the issue, you’re not alone which is why we’ve put together the top five questions our technicians get asked, along with the answers we usually provide…

Q1 – My phone keeps switching itself off or getting stuck on the device logo – do you have any ideas what this might be?

Answer – The answer to this one may be caused by the battery not holding enough charge to power on the device, or it could be software related. This issue is usually repairable, however, your device could need a factory reset which can lead to loss of data, which is why it is so important to back up as often as possible!

Q2 – My storage is full- how do I manage this or increase my device storage?

Answer – When using an iPhone the best way to manage storage is through iCloud- if this is full you can purchase extra through iTunes which can manage many devices.

Q3 – My screen is cracked and there are lines down the display – can this be repaired?

Answer – Yes! This issue is usually caused by pressure being applied to the LCD which is integrated into the screen. This can be fixed with any screen repair and should bring back full functionality of the device.

Q4 – Can you repair water damaged devices?

Answer – There is never a guarantee with water damage, however sometimes, depending on the extent of the damage, devices can be repaired. If you have a water damaged phone, we have a £10 inspection fee in store to help diagnose the issue and test different solutions. Repairs can range from a quick alcohol base clean, to a new LCD screen, or even running the device through an ultrasonic bath. Repairs can vary in time and success rate, but we will always strive to repair devices to the best of our ability.

Q5 – I have to wriggle my charger about to get my phone to charge, can you repair this?

Answer – Again this could be down to a number of issues, however, we would always advise customers to test their charger first. We have test chargers in store which will determine whether it’s the cable at fault, or whether there is something lodged in the charging port, which can sometimes prevent the charger from connecting with the base. If the base feels loose when the charger is inserted, this usually means that a new charging base is required. Depending on the phone this could be a quick fix with one of our engineers and repaired same day, however, some devices may require a more costly repair or be irreparable without causing further damage to the device.
