More and more consumers are rediscovering old gadgets of the past!

From the humble flip phone to classic games consoles, lots of us are rediscovering our simplistic old devices and fuelling the demand for retro tech.

Even the biggest brands in tech are cashing in… Earlier this year, Nokia announced that it was bringing back its famous 3310. Best loved for its long battery life, indestructible build and the classic game Snake, the 3310 is without a doubt the manufacturer’s most famous handset. While the new version is available for less than £50, it’s original counterpart is selling on eBay for up to £200!

It seems that no matter how much technology advances, our nostalgia for those clunky electrical gadgets will always be strong, and some are truly unforgettable. Take a trip back in time with our top 5 pieces of retro tech…

Gameboy

If you grew up in the 80’s/90’s you probably had a Nintendo Gameboy! The handheld console was hugely popular and featured classic games like Donkey Kong, Tetris and Super Mario Land.

Flip phones

Handsets like the Motorola Razr are making a resurgence, with celebrities including Rihanna being photographed using their old school flip phones.

Desktop PC’s

A rare Apple-1 computer recently sold at auction for £100,000! First sold back in 1976, the model was the first ever ready-made PC on the market. 41 years later, companies like Hewlett Packard and Dell are reinventing desktop computers with releases including the HP Spout.

Sega Mega Drive

First launched in the UK back in 1990, the Sega Mega Drive became synonymous with classic games such as Sonic the Hedgehog, Micro Machines and Streets of Rage 2. To the excitement of fans, Sega recently announced that it is going to make all its old games available to play on iOS and Android for free.

Portable CD player

Portable CD players were the iPods of the 80’s and 90’s.

By the time digital MP3 players were launched, much loved gadgets like the Sony Discman were soon obsolete.

Which gadgets would you like to see make a comeback?

There’s no denying that technology has come a long way in the last few decades. Fast forward to 2017 and consumers are hotly anticipating the launch of the latest tech including the iPhone 8, which is set to be Apples 10th anniversary smartphone.

While new gadgets come with a whole host of amazing features and better specs, we all know that they are not as indestructible as the 3310’s of the past! As technology gets better, devices get thinner, and screens get bigger they are much more susceptible to experience issues or smash.
